According to the Auburn-Opelika news:

The Tuscaloosa News reported that the system’s board of trustees, meeting in Mobile, on Friday raised tuition for in-state students at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa by 8.9 percent from what they paid during the past year. . . The trustees increased tuition by 8 percent at the University of Alabama in Huntsville and 7.9 percent at the University of Alabama at Birmingham for state residents.

What explains this continual increase? Rent-seeking? Middle-class financing of corporate welfare?
